CommentClose-ups can sometimes be deceptive. This one is of a Brown Thornbill and it might give the impression of a bird that is larger than it actually is, only 9 or 10 cm, no longer than my forefinger. The photo highlights some of the key features of Brown Thornbills, the deep red eye, the brown-reddish forehead, the dark streaks on the neck and breast, the brownish back, and, of course, that thorn-like bill. They are certainly tiny bundles of energy, never staying more than a moment in any one spot, which makes it a challenge to capture a good image of them, especially when their preferred habitats are often dense shrubs and trees where there is always something that gets in the way of a good line of view.
