CommentSmall birds are hard to find these days at Coburg Lake Reserve with the dominance of so many larger birds at the lake, including the now 200 or more strong White Ibis colony that has made its home on the lake island. However, hearing some tweets in the scrub on the less frequented north side of the Lake, I was pleased to discover this Grey Fantail with eyebrows almost as white as my own but with decidedly greater agility, as it rapidly moved from twig to twig in the bushes around us, obviously somewhat perturbed by my invasion of its secret domain. Yet another variation of Heisenberg’s Principle: the very act of observing something changes what you are observing, in this case the Fantail’s feelings and expression. Probably to its great relief, I beat an overdue retreat.
