Comment“I Am Sparrow!” This house sparrow was one of a group feeding on seeds in the grasslands next to the Royal Park wetlands. They were a delight to watch as they flew and pranced acrobatically amongst the ‘forest’ of long grass stems. So tiny and light that they could land on a single stem, swaying, as they pecked away at seeds. Happily chirruping away to each other. Sparrows, they are so quirky and lively and cheerful. By coincidence, not long afterwards, I was buying some bread from a local street stall whose stallholder was playing Edith Piaf, nicknamed “The Little Sparrow”, perhaps more for her diminutive stature than her sad songs of love and loss so unlike the perky upbeat chatter of actual sparrows.
