CommentI had found a pair of resident Red-eared Firetails at a gully low on the Darling Scarp, and after some observation I noticed that they came out from the thick understorey at a fallen tree, using the prostrate dead crown of the tree to hop down onto the ground to feed on a small patch of a very low form of winter grass that was producing minute soft seeds. I captured this bird on the way down to the ground, barely ½ m above the patch of grass. As I was sitting on the low side of the bush track, I found myself nearly at eye level with the bird.
