CommentAlthough this image does include a portion of wing, I feel that it still meets the competition criteria. Small birds like thornbills are not easy to approach closely so I was particularly fortunate to capture this one calling to its companions. Camera hand held. The detail in the feathers, the catchlight in the eye and the open beak all combine to deliver a certain impact. I have reduced some background noise and removed a small twig from the top right hand corner.
EquipmentCanon 1DX Mk.II Canon 400 mm. DO IS USM lens with Canon 1.4X extender. 1/1000 sec. f.8.
ISO 1250. Hand held.
