CommentThis bird could be either a female or a male bird. Both the female bird and the non-breeding male have a blue tinge to their tail, which is evident in this image. As male birds typically begin to moult into their breeding plumage in their third year, they can remain indistinguishable from the female until they begin to moult into breeding plumage. The intermediate stage of this moult can last for over a year. However a male bird in eclipse may have a black bill during the breeding season.
EquipmentCanon EOS 7D mark II ,Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM , Ext EF 2x III
1/2000 f/5.6 Spot Metering ISO 500 focal length 600mm Tripod .Raw image processd in DPP4 and then transferred to Photoshop. Noise reduction applied using Topaz DeNoise and the image downsized and sharpened before saving.
