CommentThis buttonquail was hunkered down on dirt track in the evening after a hot day. For some reason buttonquail seem to do this- I'm not sure why. I've only phtoographed red-backs like this once before but I often found red-chesteds doing this. Note the fine bill which may indicate a more insectivorous diet than most of the other buttonquails.
EquipmentCanon EOS 10D, wih Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro lens. f/22, 1/200 sec, ISO 100, hand held with flash.
