Southern Boobook

Southern Boobook (Image ID 41049)
CommentIn our area it is not uncommon for a boobook to roost in the crown of a treefern. Many images I have seen of this species are taken from underneath the bird. I have chosen this one because the bushland beside the track was sloping downhill so it was possible to be on eye level with the bird, allowing the penetrating eyes to create a strong emotional engagement with the viewer. Ssp boobook of SE Australia.
