CommentBetween about 2007 and 2014 I studied Tasmanian Masked Owls (T.n.castanops). This gave me numerous opportunities for photos. This was a regular roost site for this owl- I collected numerous pellets from this owl- I knew its diet intimately. However, this was a tricky photo to take- and I wanted the session to be over as quickly as possible. I took a range of images, some zoomed in as close as I could and some were from a distance zoomed out. This was one of my favourites. I didn't want to get too close and disturb the owl. For the same reason I didn't want to risk flash. So, it was very slow shutter speed. If I took the same image today I would probably use a much higher ISO to get the shutter speed up. Processed in Adobe Lightoom and Topaz Sharpen which sharpened up some of the wrinkles in the sandstone.
EquipmentCanon EOS 7D with 70-200 f/2.8 zoom at 70mm. f/5.6, 1/6 sec., ISO 200.
