Sooty Oystercatcher

Sooty Oystercatcher (Image ID 40894)
CommentTrying to present something ‘different’ here. The striking orange eye and bill sharply contrasting with the black plumage presents an unusual image of an often seen view of Sootys with their bills buried under their wings. To complete the image the eye is positioned in the frame to be the first element encountered by the viewer and from there it flows to the partly concealed bill. With the viewers attention captured they will then discover the subtle textures found in the plumage. After cropping and sharpening the image was flipped horizontally because, well, it just looks and works better that way. A slightly lighter area of the out of focus background was darkened to be prevent a distraction.
