CommentA large group of Australian White Ibis appear to have made their home and breeding site on the small island in Coburg Lake, with as many as 50 birds seen at any one time. This may be a mixed blessing from the viewpoint of other Lake denizens, including ducks and swans, who have diminished in number since the Ibis flock's arrival, no doubt due to competition for the lake’s finite food sources and/or competition for nest sites on this small island. They are particularly beautiful in flight. This photo shows one leaving its perch on an island tree, with its fanned out wings and tail feathers backlit by the morning sun, while another remains perched.
