CommentThis Flame Robin and its mate were sighted in the Back Paddock at Woodlands Historic Park. They were seen first on the ground and then flitted quickly into some nearby tangled shrubs and dead branches. Just for a moment, the male perched on a branch, time enough for me to take the photo. In addition to the spectacular orange-red flame, the male’s small white forehead spot and slate-coloured back and hood are evident. Flame Robins are seen more frequently in lowlands areas, such as Woodlands Park, during the Autumn and Winter, descending from their highland Spring/Summer breeding grounds in search of a milder winter habitat.
