Zebra Finch

Zebra Finch (Image ID 40426)
Photographed byCon Boekel on Tue 5th May, 2020 and uploaded on Sun 10th May, 2020 .
CommentOne aspect of finches is that they are popular cage birds. Prior to the Virus huge numbers of finches were part of the global legal and illegal wildlife trade. Zebra Finches are common cage birds in Australia. Fortunately they are hardy and breed readily in captivity, reducing the pressure on catching wild birds to maintain aviary populations.
This individual is a captive bred bird. The plumage is not 'true'. It died in a sudden cold snap.
