CommentIt is not uncommon to see birds in conflict though such incidents rarely last for long. However I recently witnessed the longest bout I have ever seen. I took in excess of 170 frames in bursts, but more time was spent just watching. Some of the time there may have been one of the birds out of view behind the undulating surface, also a lot of shots were in poor focus so I have selected just four to try to show what I saw. At one time it appeared one bird was 'riding' the bird beneath, I now believe the reason was this 'leg grip' with the upper bird with wings spread trying to escape such a hold.
