CommentThis image was taken in Mount Kaputar National Park where the subspecies yorki and rubecula overlap. This bird is in an interesting stage of its development. The throat feathers are that of a juvenile bird but with the dark feathers of an adult bird just starting to appear at the lower margins of the throat. The wing and tail feathers are brown-grey and the secondaries are narrowly edged paler as in those of an adult bird. According to HANZAB Leaden Flycatchers probably attain adult plumage after a complete first immature post-breeding moult at the end of the first year or early in the second year. However some males show traces of immaturity until the following year. I think this bird is somewhere between immature and adult.
EquipmentCanon EOS 7D mark II ,Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM , Ext EF 2x III 1/400sec f/5.6 ISO 800 600mm Tripod .Processed in DPP4 and transferred to Photoshop to reduce noise using Topaz Denoise , downsize and sharpen before output.
