CommentBibra Lake is part of the Beeliar Regional Park and an important habitat for many species of birds. At the end of summer 2020, one end started to dry out, and by mid March about a third of the lake was dry, and even in the middle of the lake the remaining water was now low enough for large waders to forage. For more than an hour on a windy morning not a single bird came near the old bird hide and within reach of camera lenses. But at 07:35 o’clock a mixed flock of ‘white waders’, consisting of Great Eastern Egrets, Little Egrets and a large number of Yellow-billed Spoonbills flew in and started foraging towards the hide, just in the right light. Mostly, the mixed flock foraged peacefully without incidents, but occasionally disagreements broke out. This is the better image of such an impromptu squabble between two of the spoonbills. Within 25 minutes the birds got spooked not to return to that spot during the morning. Bibra Lake; GPS. Yellow-billed Spoonbill status (2016): Least Concern
