CommentThe Spectacled Monarch is a summer breeding migrant to northern NSW, and I have been hearing them here in Coramba for the last two weeks or so. They have been coming to the birdbath most days, but don't stay long. This one had a very quick dip in my birdbath, before a brief rest on the fern frond. It was an overcast day, and I used a flash to take this photograph. After being photographed, the bird headed back to the bush, and was last seen chasing another individual in a possible territorial dispute.
EquipmentCamera: Olympus E-M10 Mk II
Lens : Olympus 75-300 mm1:4.8-6.7 II
Exposure: 1/200, F 6.7, ISO 800.
Flash FL-600R.
During processing, I set the white balance to the preset WB for flash of 5500K in Olympus Workspace. Further processing in Photoshop Elements was used to darken hightlights in the selected subject to bring out feather detail which was somewhat washed out by the flash, and the shadows in the background were lightened slightly. The bird was also sharpened pre- and post-resizing.
