Scientific name = Thalassarche salvini
Wingspan = 2.0 - 2.5m
Conservation Status = Vulnerable

This species was misidentified as Grey-headed Albatross x4, Buller’s Albatross x1 & Black-browed Albatross x1

The Grey-headed Albatross is distinguishable from a Salvin’s by the bill tip - it is pinkish. The Buller’s Albatross has a bright yellow stripe on both mandibles, whereas a Salvin’s stripe is quite dull. The Black-browed Albatross has a bright orange-yellow bill with a pink bill tip. A Salvin’s doesn’t show any signs of pink. Other identifying features are:

- White crown
- Small pale cap
- Olive-ish bill
- Dark spot at end of bill
