CommentA male Purple Swamphen is vigorously pursuing another male in a fierce, territorial dispute at a suburban lake. The whole incident did not last 10 seconds. NB: ‘Australian Bird Guide 2019’ has the Western Australian Purple Swamphen down as a subspecies: ‘Porphyrio melanotus bellus’ under the moniker ‘Australasian Swamphen’, whereas other authorities lump it with the Eastern one as ‘Porphyrio porphyrio’ by 04.01.19. EquipmentNikon D3S camera body, Nikkor AF-S 500mm f4G ED VR lens, Gitzo GT3543XLS Tripod , Dietmar Nill gimbal tripod head. Camera Settings: Aperture Priority f7.1, EV+0.3; shutter speed 1/800s & ISO-500. Matrix Metering Mode. Focus Mode: AF-C. Picture Control: 'Vivid' Nikon ViewNX-i for viewing and selecting files; Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw/CC 2019; Topaz Pro plug-ins for sharpening and noise control.
