CommentAdult, nominate race australis. We found pipits feeding on insects in a wildflower meadow in the middle of the day. It was too hot for sharp photos and the light was harsh so we returned the next morning with the aim of capturing the birds surrounded by flowers. However, many flowers were still closed in their overnight state (nyctinasty) so the scene lacked the colour we expected.
EquipmentCanon 1Dx II + 600 mm f/4 III + 1.4x III extender, hand-held from car window. Manual, partial metering, AI Servo spot AF, f/5.6, 1/1600 sec, ISO 125. Processed using RT 5.7 and PSE 14.1 with Neat Image 8.4.5 plug-in.
