CommentThe fledgling jacky winters would wait patiently for the parents to return with food items, which ranged from moths to ants. If a chick hinders a parent’s access to the second hungry chick, one option is to stand on the back of the first chick. This parent had no hesitation to do so on this occasion.
This was a tricky image to expose in dappled mid-morning light. Normally I’m not a fan of blue skies but in this image the behaviour of the birds does not have to compete with a busy background. This was the best position for the shot, unfortunately, the surrounding branches imposed a shadow across the parent and the first chick. However, I doubt that a perfectly placed perch would have enabled the capture of this behaviour and so bird photography will always be a compromise. I chose to include blue sky below the tree limb as I felt the limb became more inclusive within the frame.
