CommentAll of our group were enchanted by these angelic birds. They were first recorded on Lord Howe Island in 1943 when 4-5 birds were observed. Three years later about 50 birds arrived. Today they are in large numbers, visiting the the Island to breed during Oct-Apr. Numbers decrease after Mar and by Jul-Aug all have departed, dispersing when the winter gales begin. They lay their eggs precariously on the branches of Norfolk Island Pines and Sallywood (acacia sp). I found it challenging to adjust the shadows and highlights of this picture to extract detail while at the same time keeping enough shadow to preserve the form of the bird and texture of the plumage.
