CommentAdult male, ssp contempta, endemic to Lord Howe Island. This race is similar to ssp youngi of S.E. Australia but yellow underparts are not as bright. I have chosen this view to show another key ID point; the upper-tail has a distinctive olive suffusion at the base and a broad black sub-terminal band with olive tip. Other sub-species have a grey tail and black sub-terminal band.
EquipmentCanon 1DxII + 400 mm f/4 DO II + 1.4x III extender, hand-held.
Manual, spot metering, AI Servo spot AF, f/5.6, 1/100 sec, ISO 2000.
Processed using DPP4 and PSE14 with Neat Image plug-in.
