Comment | Note the ID features for the Cryptic (previously known as Graceful), dark-greyish blue eye in Adult; juvenile is brown, no streaking on belly, slender appearance. The confusingly similar Yellow-spotted Honeyeater is noticeably bigger if you are lucky to get them side by side. It has light striations on lower breast and dark brown eye at all ages. The calls are distinctive and usually the best way to ID them. The Cryptic is more fidgety, flicking its wings frequently. Ear patch is an unreliable feature as they vary in size and change shape as the bird twists its head. Thanks to Lloyd Nielsen for this information, which is explained in greater detail with diagrams in his book "Birds of The Wet Tropics of Queensland & Great Barrier Reef & Where to Find Them". | ||||||||||||||||||
