Scientific Name: Charadrius bicinctus
Summer BG: New Zealand (South Island)
Overall Size: 17.5 - 19cm.
Conservation Status (BWL): Least Concern

This species was misidentified as Little Stint x1

The Double-banded Plover is distinguishable from the Little Stint by the breast bands. In breeding plumage, the Double-banded Plover has two (2) bands, a black collar and a chestnut breast band. In non-breeding plumage, it has two (2) broken breast bands. The Little Stint does not.

Some other identifying features for the Double-banded Plover are:

- More upright posture than most small plovers.

- Black mask in breeding plumage, brown mask in non-breeding plumage.

- Narrow wing-bar visible in flight.

- Dark outer wing.
