CommentIt certainly was a treat to have the recent Scarlet Honeyeater invasion. They seem to have now moved on from my backyard in Wodonga. Initially I thought that this was a female, but the notes in ‘The Australian Bird Guide’ mention that juveniles have a yellowish base to the lower mandible. This photo puzzles me technically, as I reluctantly used a 1.4 extender. In other instances, when I have used the extender on my very old Canon 600 lens, the results have been blurred to the point where I have deleted them. I had come to the conclusion that the old lens and new extender were simply not compatible – yet this photo came out OK for sharpness.
EquipmentCanon 7D Mark II with Canon 600mm f4/L USM non IS lens with 1.4 extender, at 840mm, 1/1000 sec, f5.6, ISO 400 on tripod.
LocationWodonga, Victoria
