CommentRemember those “Where’s Wally” children’s books. Well, here’s “Where’s Tawny”. Every time we go past this old peppercorn tree at Coburg Lake we look for the Tawny Frogmouths who have made their daytime roosting home in it. But we always have to look really hard. Sometimes they will stand out but sometimes when they lean against trunks it is hard to distinguish them. This photo makes the challenge in trying to spot the Tawny a little harder by the use of a wide angle lens, usually a less preferred option for bird photographers. In this case, the photo helps to make points about both a common Tawny habitat and their use of camouflage in choosing trees whose bark match their own plumage. Clue: the Tawny’s head and beak are clearly visible.
