Rainbow Lorikeet

Rainbow Lorikeet (Image ID 46821)
CommentI have chosen this photo of two rainbow lorikeets sheltering from a windy day because it shows the important relationship between birds and trees. This tree is not their nest- it is far too open for nesting and it did not provide any flat surfaces for laying eggs, which can be seen from the fact that the lorikeets are clinging onto the side of the tree. It was an open, dead tree that provided these beautiful lorikeets with a haven from the strong wind and from the noise of a big mob of sulphur-crested cockatoos.
