CommentI encountered this solitary White-eared Honeyeater (Western Australian subspecies Nesoptilotis leucotis novaenorciae) feeding by a rock pool at the base of open bedrock. The rock pool is on the border of Boyagin Nature Reserve and still held quite a bit of water though it was late spring, attracting a lot of insects such as damselflies. Occasionally, the bird would dive down to hunt on dead branches sticking out of the water, but mostly it would forage for insects in the adjacent woodland as seen here. It seemingly did not like to venture out in the open at all. Time of capture 08:28.
