Buff-banded Rail

Buff-banded Rail (Image ID 46420)
CommentThe second and with better defined plumage of two Buff-banded Rails I photographed at this location during April/May. It was taken on a nice sunny afternoon at a track that bisects lush farmland and a swamp area. This bird had just crossed a large puddle on the track before briefly pausing and then disappearing into the lush tall grass. I managed several frames but chose this image as it shows well the distinctive colouring and I liked the alert pose and eye contact. Moreover, I was intrigued by the rather narrow eponymous buff band on this bird. Other birds I have seen in this area over several years had a much wider band.
