Dusky Moorhen, Eurasian Coot

Dusky Moorhen, Eurasian Coot (Image ID 46286)
CommentDusky Moorehen and Eurasian Coot in a territorial dispute.
It was a grey day. Not much activity except for the few usual waterbirds on the lake. I decided to rest on a rock at the water’s edge. Minutes later, the action commenced. An Eurasian Coot came hurtling towards a Dusky Moorehen who must have ventured too close to his territory when in a flurry of splashes. The battle began. By the time their long toes clashed, I was ready.

I like the dramatic aspect of this photograph. While the lake was covered with a good amount of water weeds it meant that a close crop was necessary to expose their facial expressions. I was pleased that I able to capture the movement and flurry of water droplets which enhances the dramatic effect.
