CommentThe image may be dark and lurky, but that is the preferred habitat of the Lord Howe Woodhen. I was fortunate to be on LHI about one week after a controlled number of Woodhens were released {after the rat eradication program}. The birds can be heard scratching the ground, so sitting quietly for a while the birds would wander by. The display of bands on the bird\\\'s legs shows how well monitored they are.
