Purple Swamphen

Purple Swamphen (Image ID 45781)
Commenti chose this shot for a few reasons. It is a great portrait clearly showing the head and bill and colours of the plumage. The action shows how the bird uses an opposing claw to tear up grass with its foot. They also do this with water plants and are very strong. The claw detail is very striking. The whole image demonstrates a bird in natural action and not simply any old pose. Bokeh is clean and the green contrasts nicely with the red, blues and blacks.
