Tasmanian Native-hen

Tasmanian Native-hen (Image ID 45652)
CommentTasmanian Native-hens are flightless birds but can run swiftly and often disappear into the bush when threatened. However, the individuals that live near the Richmond Bridge have become quite used to tourists, and easy to photograph. I sat on the grass and waited until this one came towards me. I have chosen to submit this photo to the competition as I like the bold, confident stance of the bird, and this is a member of a unique species, endemic to Tasmania.
