Comment2020 will be remembered for the devastating impact on both humans and wildlife due to bushfires and COVID-19. The bowed head of the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo epitomises the sadness we feel from these events. More significantly it is a tribute to the birds and animals who perished and the loss of habitat for those that live. The bird was mostly in shade with only the sun on its back and crest. I loved the bowed head and immediately thought of the deep emotions I had throughout the year. So, I took advantage of the lighting or lack of, by heightening the shadows to accentuate the mood.
