Having completely misplaced my RAW/NEF file, I created a Tif file from my preserved original in-camera backup Jpg file in ‘landscape format’, which best shows the environment in which this Black-faced Cuckoo-Shrike was hunting. The colours of the day in the saltbush habitat were spectacular, and because the habitat is so low, it offered me the unusual opportunity to observe and photograph this species at eye level, something I have not often come across. Normally, these birds like to hunt much higher up, be that on the wing or perched. Time of capture 08:08.
EquipmentNikon D3 camera body, Nikkor AF-S ED 500mm f4 D IF lens, Camera rig Support: Manfrotto Article 055B tripod, Manfrotto Video Pro Article 136 (modified) tripod head Aperture Priority f7.1, shutter speed 1/1250 sec EV -0.7 step & ISO-250. Metering Mode: Spot; Focus Mode: AF-C Nikon ViewNX-i for viewing and selecting files; Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw/CC 2020 for cropping and converting original in-camera 'portrait' Jpg file to Tif, then selective sharpening and general post-processing. ‘Australian Bird Guide 2019’ for distribution confirmation and colour checks.
