Satin Bowerbird

Satin Bowerbird (Image ID 44855)
CommentDancing for love - In the depths of the Australian forest, a young male satin bowerbird practices his mating ritual. With his chest close to the ground, he rapidly flaps his wings with speed while he holds onto a blue object. Aroused and inexperienced this young male loudly chirps while he performs with the hope of attracting a nearby female—an accurate natural display of endurance and talent. I have chosen this photo for this competition as it is one of my best photos of animals in their environment. It illustrates the passion and efforts of a young male satin bowerbird while also giving the mere observer a view of this impressive structure where the male tries to win a female. What makes it special for me, is how there is a certain movement to the still image- a powerful way of telling a story,
