Australian Pelican

Australian Pelican (Image ID 44820)
CommentThis image is all about the stare. With one side of the face brightly illuminated and the other side in shadow, I think the lighting here is a nice metaphor for the stare this pelican was giving me - simultaneously beautiful and menacing! I really like the detail on the feathers, easily visible on top of the head where the shadow meets the light, as well as the visible water droplets on the dark side of the pelicans face. The attention is drawn to the yellow skin around the bight eye, which adds some nice colour to the image as well.
