CommentThe patch of yellow on the belly of this Red Wattlebird seems to be colour coordinated with the yellow flowering eucalypt on which it is feeding. They are handsome enough birds, but unfortunately their beautiful plumage is not matched by their less than endearing explosive squawks and shrieks. Unfortunately, too, they are inclined to be very discouraging to other smaller birds trespassing on their chosen feeding places. No doubt their aggressiveness is one reason they are so common, and no doubt adversely impacts on the number of small birds in many urban settings.
