CommentThe Rufous Treecreeper is endemic to Australia and occurs from south-western Western Australia to Eyre Peninsula of Southern Australia. It is a bird of woodlands with an open forest floor, and in WA it is frequently associated with Wandoo forests, where the greatest population density often occurs. The species forages on the branches and trunks of Eucalypt trees, often dead ones; here it pecks into nooks and crannies probing for insects and grubs. Here, the bird is having a brief break from foraging to have a look in my direction, obviously checking me out.
