Pied Stilt

Pied Stilt (Image ID 42886)
CommentThis image made my shortlist for this competition for several reasons. First and foremost there is a very clear reflection of the subject on a mirror calm lake surface, which qualifies it for inclusion. Secondly, the soft early morning light has allowed for a correctly exposed subject, which can be difficult in certain conditions, given the starkly contrasting tones (i.e the black and white) of this species. Finally, the combination of the green, gold and red reflections on the water surface add a third dimension to the photograph.
