White-faced Heron

White-faced Heron (Image ID 42843)
CommentPart of this White-faced Heron’s hunting technique was to wade for a while and then remain absolutely motionless for extended periods in anticipation of catching breakfast, allowing the water ripples to completely disappear. This presented some pleasing reflection opportunities where the bird was statue like on a still pond of crystal clear water. I was pleased that the morning sunrise ‘golden hour’ light turned the water gold, complementing the Heron’s legs, while the black and grey background rocks complement both the Heron’s beak and feathers.
