Yellow-billed Spoonbill

Yellow-billed Spoonbill (Image ID 42762)
CommentOn the way home from what had been an unsuccessful morning in the field, I called into a spot where I had seen some Yellow-billed Spoonbills previously but had no luck shooting. There were around 8 birds sitting on a large rock not far away, so I carefully moved closer and forgetting I had no change of clothes in the car, lay down in the water and waited, hoping they would eventually come close enough to get some shots. After a short wait, three of them started walking directly towards me and came close enough to shoot this frame at 320mm. The clear reflections and raised feet create a geometric-like pattern that’s appealing, and the wide focal length gives a glimpse of the inlet environment where these birds were captured.
