Pictorella Mannikin, Star Finch

Pictorella Mannikin, Star Finch (Image ID 40431)
CommentI spent several days at this tiny waterhole in the Kimberley last year. At first light literally 1000's of Pictorella Mannikins would venture in for a drink followed an hour later by the Star Finches and the occasional Zebra Finch. As the morning grew hotter and the birds became more confident then they would all begin to bathe. I chose this image because it not only depicted the stunning detail of their plumage but also gave some feel for the chaos and continual activity of this morning ritual.
