CommentI selected this image for this competition theme as it was my first encounter with a Plum-headed finch. I was travelling from Airlie Beach QLD back home to Newcastle NSW when I spotted it out of the corner of my eye, sitting on a fence.
I knew it was a finch but couldn't tell what kind from how far away I was. I managed to get a comfortable three meters away without scaring it off as my only lens is a 70-200mm this really affects my distance to my subjects but this little guy was very cooperative. I was quite excited when I got home to hear of this competitions category being Finches & Chats as I have not been lucky enough to get too many photos of all the beautiful kinds of Finches & Chats out there!
