Tawny Frogmouth

Tawny Frogmouth (Image ID 38935)
CommentNew to birdwatching, this was one of my first sightings of a Tawny Frogmouth, in this case a juvenile with the parents higher up in the same tree. Unlike the parents, who were fast asleep, the young one was wide awake and staring down at us through a veil of peppercorn fronds. The photo seeks to capture the curiosity and extraordinary plumage of this bird at a time of day when they are normally fast asleep.
