Eastern Reef Egret

Eastern Reef Egret (Image ID 38876)
CommentI have chosen this image as one of my favourites for the year as I took it as the bird flew a few metres and shook its feathers as it landed. I like the fact that the photo has captured the bird already concentrating on the next possible catch with its intense gaze. The photo has picked out the softness of the feathers not often seen when the bird is just standing or fishing at the edge of the rocks. Additionally, the background water gives a feeling of the force of the water the heron contends with as it fishes. This is also the grey morph of the Eastern Reef Heron so a more uncommon bird.
