CommentAgain, I enter a white bird here; this time an Eastern Great Egret. The bird is in full breeding plumage, however its bill is yellow, but for the black tip. An oddity, perhaps? The IUCN Red List has the Great Egret listed as ‘Least Concern’, but recently the Australian Great Egret was elevated to full species status under the name of ‘Eastern Great Egret’. In parts of Australia this egret is under threat, and indeed in WA it is listed as ‘Endangered’. However, for now it is a common and easy bird to get to see around Perth due to its large size and eye-catching, white plumage. It is not too shy around people either, and if one can get up early in the morning, you may see it around any wetland or at the rivers and estuaries, sometimes standing close together in shallow water, stalking prey.
