Red-browed Finch

Red-browed Finch (Image ID 36829)
CommentI liked this photo for its simple composition but a closer examination can reveal much more. The birds are positioned balanced within the frame with their eyes level and on the horizontal 'line of thirds' for 'warm and fuzzy' positioning. Eye contact engages the observer. Strong backlighting defines the birds against a darker uncluttered background with details of the background fortunately lost due to narrow depth of field. There is a suggestion of a cluttered habitat with out of focus, but not prominent, twigs visible. One bird shows its feathers are wet and matted while the other, being dry, reveals fine details. The bright lighting against a dark background shows the birds' legs translucent with veins visible. A delicate spider web remains undisturbed, close, but out of reach of the menacing claws adding a strange perspective to the scene.
