Pink-eared Duck

Pink-eared Duck (Image ID 36729)
CommentPink-eared Duck are monomorphic. Males have a heavier weight range than females but there is a substantial overlap. The bird on the right is more probably than not the male based on size, but this is not a given. This pair had been moving together, preening together and loafing together. Here they are vortexing - feeding in a circular motion. This is thought to increase filter feeding efficiency.
